Orinda Man Shot guarding Pot

This is yet another example of prohibition crime that would cease to exist with the total legalization of Marijuana...People were being shot over alcohol during prohibition as well but no one is being shot over at the Budweiser plant these days now are they? Nope because it is legal and providing a fat tax revenue for our state ...Anyway here's the story clip from the C.C.Times and the Link to the rest of the story
— A 43-year-old Orinda man who was asked to guard his friend's outdoor medicinal marijuana crop was shot four times Sunday morning by thieves who made off with one the plants, police said.
The man was listed in serious but stable condition at a hospital this afternoon. He had gunshot wounds to his stomach, thigh, shin and arm, police said. His name was not released...  Contra Costa Times

Smokey you are right

You are wrong Smokey. The pot in this case was legal. So I'm not sure where your comparison to prohibition comes in. Maybe these guys had a serious medical condition and needed the pot for it. How dare this guy try to deny them of the medicine they so desperately need to stay alive. It's sad that people care more about making money than actually providing the sick people with the "medicine" they need.

Here's a news flash for you. More people are killed now from alcohol then were ever killed in shootings and robberies and alcohol related incidents during prohibition. So if your measure of success of prohibition is the number of lives saved, prohibition was an overwhelming success to the alternative of how many people have been killed by drunk drivers, drunken violence and alcohol related illnesses. But we both know that wouldn't be a good story for you so I'm sure you won't post this.

10;59 you are missing the point altogether, yea they were growing it "legally" but its still a very rare thing to come across a Pot crop for thieves...For instance The Napa Valley grows for Wine and its a crime to steal the grapes there too... They are grown legally as well...But no one is stealing them because they are everywhere and its no big deal...Marijuana would be this way as well...And besides I was clearly referring to Violent crimes not deaths related in some way...(which are considerably less than too though Alcohol as well)...

(considerably less than alcohol too)my bad sorry

Smokey. I'm not 10:59 but did a study about alcohol for college and you are wrong on the violent crime comparison. The deaths related to the bootleg trade during prohibition were MUCH less than the violent crimes committed now by people under the influence of alcohol. The difference was that the media sensationalized the mob crimes during prohibition because it was an exciting story that everyone was interested in. The public isn't as interested in the millions of people injured or killed during drunken brawls now a days.

So as 10:59 said, if you compare the number of violent deaths during prohibition, it was an overwhelming success. The ignorant people who don't want to actually research the numbers only see the mob stories and believe otherwise.

If marijuana were completely legalized, it would be a horrible mistake. Research the costs that each of us have to pay to cover all the expenses from alcohol related illnesses, accidents, violence, etc. The same would happen if we made marijuana legal for everyone. These costs have already skyrocketed since California made "medicinal" marijuana legal.

Let's face it, for the most part, its not law abiding productive members of society that are addicted to the stuff. It's usually the dead beat, welfare, section 8 crowd that is addicted to it. Someone always points out that "The president has smoked it" or some other nonsense. But the difference is that the president and most mature people grew up and realized it was stupid so they stopped. The immature people that still think it's cool are the ones that sit at home in their trailers all day smoking weed instead of working and contributing to society.

Wont argue that there are many many losers smoking weed ... However Weed Smokers anonymous Doesnt even exist because you never see someone laying in the gutter with a Bong in their hand...But Alcoholics anonymous has been filling a social need for ever...my point being you really cant even compare the two...One is a man made liquid poison that will kill you if ingested in too large an amount... And the other grows naturally and is an Herb with many uses...

"However Weed Smokers anonymous Doesnt even exist"

You really aren't that dumb, are you? There also isn't a Cocaine Users Anonymous or Crack Smokers Anonymous because....(Duh!)....Narcotics Anonymous covers all those drugs. They also do not let their members smoke marijuana because they also don't buy into the "medicinal marijuana" bullshit.

Have you ever been to an NA meeting ? If you have then you would know that there are almost no cases of someone standing up and saying Hi My Name Is ------ and I am here for weed... Dude it just dont happen that much almost never ...NA will commonly be filled with alcoholics though because alcohol ruins lives not Herb... NA is a great organization by the way ... But Coke and Crank or Alcohol aren't even similar to weed ...... You don't sound very knowledgeable about this... thanks though...

Since you are so familiar with NA, you should know the answers to these questions:

Does NA allow their members to smoke marijuana?

What is NA's stance on so-called "medical marijuana"?

And yes, I have been to an NA meeting. I work in the mental health field and have helped many people kick their habits. NA does not support medicinal marijuana because they know that marijuana is a drug that ruins many lives and that the "medicinal" claim is a scam.

I dont see your point ,,,they also dont allow alcohol and its legal and way more of a life taker...Look you can abuse Prescription meds as well and NA doesnt tolerate being under the influence of any controlled substance for one who is in recovery...thats just common sense for one in a program claiming to be sober...However I know for a fact that if a condition were diagnosed that warranted the prescription of this "medicine" I bet wouldnt lose my chip for medicating my pain...again...thanks though

Smokey, George Washington grew marijuana for other uses, not to smoke. So why did you bring him into the argument?

It's Reefer Madness, not Reafer Madness.

Smokey - I swear, the anti-marijuana hysteria will never cease! People are so short-sighted chiming in here about the dangers of pot! Geez, if that were the case, after 35 years of HARD CORE smoking, I should be melted into a pile of protoplasmic mush. Just silly. Also, legalizing the herb would prevent thousands and thousands of deaths related to violent drug cartel murders, plus it would stop the ecological destruction of growing illegally on national forests where precious streams are diverted and drained, and pesticides, rodenticides and herbicides are indiscriminately used. Wake up, Anonymous whoever you are! - Gambolin' Man
